Aidan and I went Apple picking today at Barthel's Fruit Farm. I knew it was warm and not quite the crisp apple-picking weather but I wanted to do something fun with Aidan and once I mentioned it to him, he couldn't keep still he was so excited.
The only available apples were Gingergold and Paula Reds. We started with the Gingergolds and never made it to the Paula Reds. The mosquitoes were out in full force today and I picked my bag of apples in record time and had Aidan run back to the car. He didn't mind - he thought we were racing. I think two or three mosquitoes picked some apples for me, too, with some help from the wasps.
We'll be back for the Honeycrisps and I'm sure one more time later in the season, too. Hopefully, the mosquitoes will be elsewhere.

mmm looks very yummy. So glad that apples will be in season at the stores here soon. Wish we had some farms around us- too hot. Hopefully in a few weeks we'll have grapefruits on our tree.

Fall is such a lovely time--I so miss being back east and actually experiencing the "feel" of the seasonal change. It's not so here in Tucson.
Apple picking is such a perfect thing to do this time of year. We actually have a u-pick-it farm a couple of hours from here; maybe I ought to take some time to drive over there and pretend it's fall. Your post has me thinking of apple and other fall recipes.
Thank you for your pictures and thoughtful post.
